Versatile to the point of exasperation my Foundation tutors advised that the only course to accommodate my eclectic abilities was Theatre Design... a surprise to me as I’d always wanted to be a sculptor like my Grandfather. Yet, there was some Drama in the blood; my grandmother had co-founded the Little Theatre in Lockerbie where she wrote, directed and coerced the whole family into producing plays. Despite my fathers fears for me as a ‘Jack of all trades’ I soon found my niche as a ‘Master of Props’, working for Jimmy Logan on the panto circuit where I learned a lot about traditional ’trick’ props and also u.v. paint (- came in useful many years later when making the backcloth for Michael Jacksons ‘Thriller’ tour) .My journey led to a good few years with the Royal Opera House followed by Cameron Mackintosh Productions, always learning and loving a challenge.
